Tran Huynh Duy Thuc – Arrest and detention
On May 24, 2009, Mr. Tran Huynh Duy Thuc was arrested by the Vietnamese Public Security Police and later charged with “promoting anti-Socialist, anti-government propaganda” according to Article 88 of the Criminal Code, before being later charged under Article 79 of the Penal Code, stating “activities aimed at subverting the people’s government.” He was sentenced by the People’s Court of First Instance of Ho Chi Minh City along with three other democracy activists, namely Mr. Le Cong Dinh, Mr. Le Thang Long and Mr. Nguyen Tien Trung, for the same charge, following a one-day trial, after they engaged in activities for the democratization of Vietnam.
Mr. Tran Huynh Duy Thuc is currently being detained at K1, Z30A Prison Camp in Xuan Loc, Dong Nai province, Viet Nam.
On June 4th 2012, Mr. Le Thang Long was released.
On February 6th 2013, Mr. Le Cong Dinh was released.

Since August 2012 and during 8 months, Mr. Tran Huynh Duy Thuc has been held in solitary confinement and his living conditions deteriorate. He is not allowed to leave the cell and his only contact with another human being is when the prison guards deliver his meals. He is also not allowed to receive books, newspapers, pens or paper like other inmates.
